It amazes me how God can download a word in your spirit and you think you have the revelation of it, but then years later He will bring that word back again and peel back more layers and take you even deeper still into the revelation and understanding of the very thing you thought you knew!!
You know how sometimes a person can ask you a question or make a statement and suddenly you are in hot pursuit of something that absolutely had nothing to do with what they just mentioned but a word they spoke triggered a thought or a memory in you? That just happened to me and this is where I went.
Over the years I have had the privilege to have met and even cared for many people with physical handicaps, and I learned so much from them in the process. When I was really young, a relative took in a married couple who were both blind. I remember listening to them play the piano. They would read to me from their Braille bible. It was beautiful.
Then there was a beautiful patient I had the privilege of caring for who was a MS quadriplegic patient. This woman had been bed bound for 25 years when we went in to start care. All she could move were her eyes and she could only speak in a whisper because the disease had progressed so far. But the thing about her that amazed me and encouraged me every single time was when I entered her room there was a presence of peace and love that oozed from her. You could see she was a lover of Jesus. She spent time in his presence every day.
I know some are thinking right now, well of course she did. She had all the time in the world. She was stuck in the bed. But you see, I have also cared for others who didn’t have near the difficult health issues nor the restraints and yet, they were very bitter, mean spirited people, and miserable.
If you have ever tried to describe a beautiful sunset to a blind person because you wanted to help them enjoy and experience the moment, only for them to describe the sound of the leaves rustling and the birds singing and the warmth of the sun on their skin because they wanted to help you enjoy the moment?
You see each one had a gift. One had the gift of sight and the other had the gift of sound and sensation maximized. They each could have experienced the moment on their own, but not at the level of blending their gifts.
God has given gifts to each of his children, and they are not all the same gift. He sets us on a journey where we experience life. We can go through just seeing through the lens of our gift, or we can connect with others and have a mutual appreciation for the gifts we each carry. Together we can not only see the beautiful scenery, but hear the sound and smell the fragrance and feel the textures on this journey.
We, together are like a beautiful symphony for the Father to enjoy and he loves each instrument equally but when the instruments blend their sound it fills the Father’s heart with such love and joy, because it is a piece of him in each one bringing His sound forth in the earth. Beautiful.
